The Chinook is an able and versatile support helicopter that can be armed with crew served weapons to provide self-defence, and can be operated from land or ship in such diverse environments as the Arctic, jungle and desert. The Royal Air Force uses the Chinook in a variety of roles including personnel transportation, resupply, battlefield casualty evacuation and for carrying internal or underslung cargo. The Chinook was used extensively in Afghanistan and proved to be hugely successful in the emergency response role, saving many lives. The popular RAF Chinook Display Team will be showcasing the flying capabilities of the helicopter on Sunday 11th June.
